Dec 21, 2016 Change export resolution. There is a method to change the resolution of the images that you export in PowerPoint. The standard for high-quality images in the professional printing industry is set to 300 dpi. So we want our PowerPoint to JPEG conversion to be set to these printing standards. To change the export resolution, use the registry editor. Save PowerPoint Slides As JPEG. I'm going to go to the File tab. I'll choose Export, and then I'll click on Change File Type. Now I'll click on Save As. Go to the File tab and choose the Export option. Compress the File Size. Let's go ahead and pick out a destination to save those and give it a file name. When I take a Keynote (5.3 or 6.0) presentation with images (all pasted PDF files), then export the presentation to a PowerPoint presentation, all of the images become severely degraded. For reference, the original PDf files are on the order of 100KB, so I don't believe they are particularly large Is there a way to change this behavior?

You can change the export resolution in Microsoft PowerPoint by saving a slide in a picture format. There are two steps to this process: using the system registry to change the default resolution setting for exported slides, and then actually saving the slide as a picture at the new resolution.
Step 1: Change the export resolution setting
Important

Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
By default, the export resolution of a PowerPoint slide that you want to save as a picture is 96 dots per inch (dpi). To change the export resolution, follow these steps:
- Exit all Windows-based programs.
- Right-click the Start button and then Run. (In Windows 7, select Start, and then Run.)
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then select OK.

- Click the Options subkey, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Type ExportBitmapResolution, and then press Enter.
- Make sure that ExportBitmapResolution is selected, and then click Modify on the Edit menu.
- In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, select Decimal.
- In the Value data box, type the value of the resolution that you want such as 300. Or, use the parameters in the following table.

- On the File menu, select Exit to exit Registry Editor.
Step 2: Export the slide as a picture
- In PowerPoint, open your slide presentation, and then open the slide that you want to export.
- On the File menu, select Save As.
- In the Save as type box, select one of the following picture formats:
- GIF Graphics Interchange Format (.gif)
- JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg)
- PNG Portable Network Graphics Format (*.png)
- TIFF Tag Image File Format (*.tif)
- Device Independent Bitmap (*.bmp)
- Windows Metafile (*.wmf)
- Enhanced Windows Metafile (*.emf)
NoteYou may want to change the picture's save location in the Save in box. You may also want to change the name of the picture in the File name box. - Select Save. You will be prompted with the following dialog box:Select Current Slide Only. The slide is saved in the new format and resolution, in the location that you specified in the Save in box.
- To verify that the slide is saved in the resolution that you specified, right-click the picture, and then select Properties.
Limitations
When you set the ExportBitmapResolution registry value in PowerPoint, there's a maximum DPI limitation to consider for some versions of PowerPoint.
Maximum DPI is dependent upon the slide size. The formula is:maxdpi = (sqrt(100,000,000 / (slide with * slide height)), where slide width/height are in inches.
For example, for a standard 13.3' x 7.5' slide, the equation would be:sqrt(100,000,000 / (13.333 * 7.5) ) = 1000.
PowerPoint 2019, 2016, 2013, and 365
There is no fixed DPI limit. Slide export is only limited by how big the resulting bitmap gets. PowerPoint can support creating bitmaps up to ~100,000,000 pixels (width x height). For standard widescreen slides (13.3' x 7.5') this means a maximum DPI of 1000. For the old style 10' x 7.5' slides this means a maximum of 1155 DPI, but depending on slide size, this can be more or less.

PowerPoint 2010 and older
The maximum resolution that PowerPoint can export is 3072 pixels, based on the longest edge of the slide. For example, the standard 10' × 7.5' slide has a maximum effective DPI value of 307. The 3070-pixel result (10 × 307 = 3070) falls within the 3072 limit. However, any DPI setting that's greater than 307 for a standard slide reverts to the limit of 3072.

Microsoft PowerPoint offers features to record audio narration and export as a video. PowerPoint records audio slide-by-slide rather than in one continuous file, allowing creators to easily re-record a slide if they make a mistake or need to change something later. Exporting as a video and uploading to Kaltura or Canvas for streaming is advantageous since it standardizes file types, doesn't require a download to view, is in a format that can be captioned, and allows viewers to navigate more efficiently.

TIP: Use images and limit text to better engage viewers/listeners. - Click the Slide Show tab
NOTE: Do not add audio under Insert and Record Audio; this method will not allow you to save your PowerPoint as a video since it does not synchronize timings to automatically move the slides with the audio. - Click Record Slide Show
NOTE: Audio may start recording automatically if you have an older version of PowerPoint. It will still work, but this version offers reduced functionality. - Select Record from Current Slide or Record from Beginning depending on your needs
NOTE: Any PowerPoint slide can be re-recorded by clicking Record Slide Show and Selecting Record from Current Slide. - Click Record to start recording narration for a slide.
NOTE: PowerPoint will give a three-second countdown before it begins recording. - Record narration and avoid reading text on the slide out loud to viewers. Click the blue Replay button to listen to the recorded audio and ensure it was recording.
- Click the advance button, that reads Advance to the next animation or slide to record the narration for the next slide IMPORTANT: Stop speaking for a second to prevent the audio from cutting out.
- Press [Escape] or the ‘X’ button located in the top right of the screen when the audio recordings are finished. You will see a speaker icon on slides that have audio.
- Save the video by first clicking File. We recommend saving your file as a regular PowerPoint before following the next steps for exporting your PowerPoint.
- Select Export (steps 10-14 are shown in screenshot below).
- Select Create a Video.
- Optional: Select Full HD (1080p) for the video quality; it is unlikely a higher quality is needed.
- Select Use Recorded Timings and Narrations.
- Click Create Video.
- Follow prompt/pop-up window to save the video in a memorable location.
- Monitor the progress indicator at the bottom of the screen to determine when the video is done exporting.

Elaboration on the Recording Features:
- Timing Feature – there is a rolling time feature for the individual slide and the overall presentation. Allows the speaker/presenter to monitor how long they are talking.
- Microphone Feature - Click on Settings and select Microphone and then the specific device to set up before recording.
- Replay Feature - Use to check that the audio is recording properly before starting additional slides.
- Clear Feature - Select Clear to delete/re-record audio.
- Don’t set the camera to record - Make sure this button has a diagonal slash through it to avoid the problem.
- Seconds spent on each slide feature – Used for when a slide does not have audio, therefore it’s recommended to have audio on each slide.

- Fill out text boxes (Export As, Tags etc.) follow PowerPoint’s prompts.
- Select MP4 from the File Format options list.
- Select Presentation Quality or Internet Quality. Presentation Quality will take longer to export.
- Click Export
- Monitor the progress indicator at the bottom of the screen for when the video is no longer exporting.
